We are really lucky to have such a fabulous library so close to school!

Homework 3.2.12

Everyone has been working really hard joining the letters ‘at’ and ‘all’ this week, we have handwriting homework to practise this. Please remember to fill the lines up!

This week we also have a writing activity, to tell us about your favourite story and draw a picture of your favouite part of it. Remember to leave smiley face spaces between your words and to use capital letters to start your sentences and a full stop to end them.

Children who brought their homework back last week now have a homework book, bring this week’s homework home in to get yours!

Homework 27.1.12

Another busy week in Year One!

Wow! The moving toys you all made for homework last week were incredible, the children were really proud when the showed them in assembly on Monday. We are planning on displaying them in school so everyone can see them and be amazed by the creativity of the families in Year 1!

Handwriting this week was looking at the zig zag monster family letters – z, x, v and w. The sheet has the explanation of how to form the letters, reading this to the children as they write helps make sure they are forming the letters properly, which is really important, especially as we will be starting to join our writing next week.

We also had a maths activity, looking for 3D shapes in everyday objects at home. When looking at shapes we have been describing them using language like faces (the cube has 6 square faces), edges and corners.
2D shape and 3D shape recognition activies.

We have also been looking at 1 more and less and 10 more and less in Maths this week and have been writing and reading information texts in Literacy.

Next week we will be moving onto thinking about instructions and we will be designing and making a roly poly toy. Any old kitchen roll tubes would be gratefully received!

Happy New Year

Year One have had a fabulous first week of 2012, we’ve all settled back into the school routine quickly!

This week we’ve been looking at months of the year – the song we used is here ~ Months of the Year
We’ve also used this song to help us with alphabetical order and this game too!

Homework was to add family events to a monthly calendar and to practise the months of the year song.

As we are starting our new topic of Wheelies the children can bring in toys with wheels, toys that move for us to look at, but please don’t send anything very precious in.

Christingle

I hope you all enjoyed the Christingle oranges we made last week, can you remember what all the different parts represent Year One? Leave a comment to tell me what you remember and then you can have a peek in the prize box!

Message from Santa!

The Portable North Pole website lets you help Santa create a personal message for your child…my children loved their messages, worth a look!

Homework 2/12/11

Homework this weekend is some more handwriting – curly caterpillar letters s,q,e,and f with a number sentence activity on the reverse of the sheet.

We have been working very hard re-write the story of Jack and the Beanstalk this week in Literacy and have been looking at tallying and dispalying information about favourite toys in pictograms and block graphs in Numeracy. We have also been thinking about the Nativity story, here are some links to resources we used in class.

Homework 18.11.11

We have been working really hard with our handwriting and everyone has brought home a sheet to explain our handwriting and one for homework handwriting practise – one armed robot letters.

We are still looking at traditional tales in Literacy and compared watching and listening to Jack and the Beanstalk. Here are the versions we used in school if you want to use them at home too!
Listen and watch.

Cinderella’s Ball

We had a fantastic time at Cinderella’s ball, the Year 1 princes and princesses behaved beautifully, danced elegantly and enjoyed their feast!
